I started this business after I attended a university degree show in Coventry, where Engineering students display their final project. There was some incredible creativity and design, but many of the explanations were very badly written.

I already knew I had an eye for small details: I notice a misplaced apostrophe in a long and generally high-quality report; I notice a missing hyphen in a museum display, and realise that it turns good information into nonsense. So I decided I would use my skills more systematically.

I completed the Publishing Training Centre‘s standard courses in both Proofreading and Copyediting, and I am a professional member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP).

Checking for mistakes is just one part of what I do. I can discuss with you what your audience is, as this will affect the tone and style of your writing. What is an error in an academic document may be fine in a promotional leaflet. When something has been written by a non-native English speaker it is even more important to have it proofread.

I work at home where I have also been the full-time parent for many years. I have also worked for Probation with adult offenders, and now work with young care leavers. I read widely, and interpret ‘lifelong learning’ to mean I am always understanding new things which I can use to hone my proofreading skill.

I always provide a personal service in which I will clarify what your writing is for – the ‘brief’ – and take the time needed to make sure your writing does what you want it to do.
